Lisa NavesLISA NAVES-ABONYI
Lisa is extremely proud of the Lisa Naves Dance Company and the outstanding reputation it has earned across Southern Ontario over the past ten years!

The owner and director of LNDC, Lisa danced competitively at the Dot Blakeley Dance Studio in Simcoe and The Dance Shoppe in Brantford. She continues her training in Buffalo, Florida, Toronto, Las Vegas, and New York City. Lisa is a highly respected instructor, choreographer, and adjudicator, with over 30 years dance experience.

She is certified by test to teach and is a full member of Dance Masters of America: the oldest and most prestigious dance organization in North America. She is also President of Canadian Dance Masters of America, Chapter #38.

Lisa has a B.A. from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Science in Education from Canisius College in Buffalo. She also has her joint specialist in History and English and is a former teacher at Assumption College School and Holy Trinity.

An award- winning choreographer, Lisa’s students have won many prestigious titles, scholarships and overalls and she is proud to have assisted several students into both teaching and professional careers in dance.


Janelle Beatty JANELLE BEATTY
Janelle Beatty is eighteen years old an aspiring dancer and dance teacher. She is a former LNDC competitive student and has been with the LNDC family for eight years.

Janelle is currently taking a year off before attending university. She has been dancing her whole life and has a passion for dance. Janelle recently choreographed the 2010 Brantford Colligate Institute musical entitled “99”. She also took part in a co-operative education with the dance program at her high school. Janelle has also taught classes at several elementary schools including Ryerson Heights in Brantford, and St. Bernard’s in Waterford. Janelle has won several awards and scholarships throughout her dance life.

She is currently on the Canadian National Showdance Team and will be travelling to Germany in November 2010, She is also travelling through Europe in August 2011 with a pre-professional dance company entitled “M.I.X.” Janelle hopes to attend the University of Buffalo next year for their dance program and continue her training. She is thrilled to now be one of the highly respected staff of LNDC.


KELLY GREGAN
Miss Kelly is excited to be back for a second year teaching at the Lisa Naves Dance Company. Kelly began her dance training at the age of 3 at Tiffany's Dance Elite in Hamilton, Ontario. She then studied at the Suzanne Burt School of Ballet for 5 years, and has been a part of the LNDC family for the past 9 years. As a past competitive student and teaching assistant, she has won several awards through the studio and at competitions.

Kelly has been involved in theatre productions at Lighthouse Festival Theatre in Port Dover, Ontario. She took part in Dance Masters of America Teachers Training School in Buffalo this past July, 2010.

In January 2011 she will be begin the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies program with the Royal Academy of Dance. Upon completion she will receive her teaching diploma with the RAD.


Sarah JohnsonSARAH JOHNSON
Miss Sarah, a former competitive student as well as assistant, and is entering her second year teaching at LNDC.  She has danced since the age of three and began dancing competitively at 8 years old.  She has participated in the Dance Masters of America, Chapter #38 Teen/Miss Dance of Canada Pageant consecutive years in a row and attended their Teacher Training School in Buffalo in 2010.

Sarah trained in NYC at the Broadway Dance Centre for four months in 2009, and completed their ISVP program.  She has also taught Jazz Funk at Waterloo University this past spring.  In January 2011 she will begin taking a course in order to achieve her RAD teaching diploma.  Over the past ten years dancing at LNDC Sarah has won many awards through the studio as well as competitions.

 


DIANE KUSKADiana Kuska
Miss Diane, a former competitive student at LNDC, has trained in dance for 20 years. She is entering her ninth year of instructing Leaps and Bounds, Jazz, Acrobatics, Tap and Lyrical. She is also a competitive choreographer and has received several special recognition awards at various competitions.

Diane graduated with honours from the University of Guelph, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Biology.

This year she is returning to school at the Althouse Faculty of Education at the University of Western Ontario. She is enrolled in the intermediate/senior program with Biology and General Science as her teachables.

Diane attended Teacher Training School for Dance Masters of America in 2006, and is working towards writing her exams. She attends numerous workshops throughout the year to continue her dance education.

She has choreographed three musical productions in Simcoe and Port Dover: The Music Man, Not Just Another Variety Show, and Fiddler on the Roof. Diane’s enthusiasm and positive instructional style is loved by all of her students!


Scott MacdonaldSCOTT MACDONALD
Scott MacDonald is an accomplished and well-established Canadian-born dancer, with extensive training in ballet, contemporary, jazz, and acrobatics. Scott’s professional dance career began with the Philadelphia based ASH Contemporary Dance Company, where he was honoured to work with renowned choreographer, Mia Michaels, in the world premiere of her work, “3 Steps From Heaven”. Later, Scott worked for Helix Dance Project: a Toronto based company, in “West Side Stories”, the work of top Canadian choreographer, Linda Garneau.

Trained by top ballet teachers, Scott worked as a soloist in the acclaimed all-male ballet company, Les Ballets Grandiva. With the company, Scott performed works by George Balanchine, William Forsythe, and Brian Reeder. While with the company, Scott had the opportunity to dance in Japan, Korea, and Italy extensively.

Scott has travelled to the most prestigious venues across Europe and the United Kingdom to perform in Cirque Du Soleil’s touring show “Delirium”, choreographed by Mia Michaels. While with Cirque Du Soleil, he was also honoured to work with famed choreographer, Wade Robson, on the workshop for the Vegas show, “Believe” and with Brazilian choreographer, Deborah Colker.

Scott, as a teacher and choreographer, is best known for his intense classes, innovation, and vast knowledge. He has had the opportunity to work across the United States and Canada, including Joffrey Ballet School’s Jazz and Contemporary Summer Program in New York City, Burn the Floor Dance Camp in Michigan, as well as having the title of Assistant Artistic Director at East Coast Movement in Northern New Jersey.


Jenn Simpson

JENNIFER SIMPSON (COOK)
Jennifer (RAD Teaching Diploma) began her ballet training in Brantford with Vera Mitchell Burke, then continued in Ancaster with Betty Love. She trained under Elizabeth Paterson at the Oakville School of Dance, where she took her teacher's training course in ballet, modern jazz and national dance.

Jennifer has more than 16 years teaching experience in Brantford, Burford, Ancaster and Simcoe. She is extremely experienced at teaching both ballet technique and RAD exam preparation. She is also a competitive choreographer for the CPC. She brings her love of ballet to every student, emphasizing self-discipline and the beauty of the art.

 

 


Jennifer WalkerJENNIFER WALKER
Miss Jennifer has been teaching tap at LNDC for the past 5 years and is also a competitive choreographer. Her dance history includes five years at the Dot Blakely Dance Studio and seven years training with Kaela Montague which included competitive dance and assisting.

Jennifer has attended physiotherapy school and currently works at the Norfolk General Hospital and owns her own orthotics business. She also plays the dual role of “dance mom” with 2 daughters on the LNDC Competitive Performance Company!

Jennifer returned to dancing when LNDC opened in 2000, volunteered to assist in 2001, and has never looked back...teaching since then and loving every minute of it!

 

 


ALISON WIELERAlison Wieler
We welcome Miss Alison back to her fourth year of teaching although she has been part of the Lisa Naves Dance Company as both a “mature” student and assistant since 2003.

She is a certified member of Dance Masters of America, Chapter #38 since 2004 and attended their Teacher Training School in 2006. Alison has a total of 25 years dance training.

She also has her level one gymnastic coaching certificate and was a Canadian champion in synchronized skating. Alison is a certified physiotherapist assistant and is excited to teach Leaps and Bounds, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, and Acrobatics.
